What has been presented
OpenAI announced three results produced by internal models: a proof of the local smoothing conjecture in every dimension, a refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis and a construction in quantum field theory. For the first two, it released natural-language proofs and Lean formalizations; the physics materials are being held by an external group while it prepares an intelligible scientific account. OpenAI says the mathematics output was obtained on 18 October and formalized the next day, while the complexity-theory result was produced on 16 October and formalized on 17 October.
Publication is not yet scientific consensus
The claims are unusually consequential, making the review model as important as the result. OpenAI itself describes the manuscripts as raw research data and has invited independent groups to interpret and assess them. A Lean check shows that a proof passes within a specified formal system, but it does not replace scrutiny of the framing, assumptions, novelty or connection to prior literature. The accurate status is therefore public artifacts under open examination, not three discoveries that the scientific community has already accepted.
