Learning with digital twins

A digital-twin laboratory for prosthetics education has opened at the Novokuznetsk State Humanitarian and Technical Boarding College. Its technology partner, Skolkovo resident Studio of Intelligent Technologies, is providing the ARIUM platform licence at no charge and running workshops. The parties signed their cooperation memorandum on October 15.

Using augmented-reality glasses, students can view a three-dimensional prosthesis model, take the mechanism apart and follow its assembly sequence. They can build interactive instructions without a programmer, so learners do not merely consume prepared materials but also create digital models for practical classes.

A training prosthesis and 3D instructions

The college has built a training prototype of a mechanised prosthetic hand. Students digitised its base, printed a component in 3D and prepared instructions. Future prosthetists, programmers and mechanical-engineering specialists take part in the projects.

Digital instructions allow students to practise assembly before handling expensive or fragile components. They also learn to document the sequence and prepare materials for the next user.
